TAXES

Are taxes included in your prices?

For the UK and EU, all of our prices include all relevant taxes. The price you see is the price you will pay.

For other countries we do not include taxes in the prices nor do we add them at checkout.

VAT vs Duties vs Tariffs vs Sales Tax

This confuses many people. These are four separate and different taxes which may be charged on any items you receive into your country from abroad.

VAT/GST/HST etc

These are taxes everyone pays when they purchase something in countries which have them. Therefore it is only fair that when buying abroad, VAT is also paid. Countries are more and more making it mandatory to pay them, although they unfortunately don't always make it easy. We collect VAT for UK and EU sales and submit it direct to the respective governments. For other countries, it may be necessary to pay on receipt of the package.

DUTIES

This is a tax that is charged on certain goods when imported. Most countries have a threshold under which duties are not paid, so these usually do not affect our orders.

TARIFFS

Same as a duty basically. Mostly for large imports so usually does not affect our orders.

SALES TAX

In the USA a sales tax is often charged by the states. Since every state has their own system it is ridiculously complicated. Theoretically, you are responsible for initiating the paying of sales tax to your state.. In reality on a small order like you would get from diedododa no-one is bothering it seems. But technically it is due, so you never know if you will be required to pay it at some point.

Will there be extra taxes to countries outside Europe?

Yes, it is possible your country will impose import duties and taxes on your items. Every country has different rules. You are responsible for any taxes your country charges you.

Many countries have free trade agreements with each other. Thanks to a certain bamstick, these are currently in turmoil. Therefore we cannot currently know what your country might charge in import duties.

Some countries charge taxes when goods arrive from abroad. If this occurs, you may receive a letter from your delivery service requiring you to pay a fee before you receive your goods. This fee may include the taxes and a service charge.

These taxes are charged to you by the government of your country and we cannot be held responsible for them.

Please check the laws in your own country if you are not sure of them, and consider any possible extra charges in calculating the total cost of your order. You may also be charged processing fees for collection of these taxes and duties.

The USA & Australia shouldn't charge currently, for example, but Canada & Singapore might. Please check the laws in your own country if you are not sure of them.

For our part, if we think there might be an issue with you being charged, we will try to find a way to avoid it, such as using a print partner in your country.

Europe

Will there be extra taxes in EU Countries?

There should not be any extra taxes to pay. We are registered with the EU IOSS (Import One Stop Shop) scheme and collect VAT from you when you order (The VAT is included in the price). We send this VAT collected to an EU Tax agency under the IOSS scheme. When we create a postage label, the necessary information is encoded in that label, so you should never be asked to pay VAT again to receive your parcel.

When we say VAT, we may mean any of these USt, TVA, BTW, DDS, PDV, FPA, DPH, Moms, KM, KMR, ALV, MwSt, ÁFA, VAT, IVA, PVN, PVM, DDV

Norway

No More Tax-Free Limit: As of January 2024, all goods are subject to Norwegian VAT on import.

You will have to pay 25% VAT on import.

In addition, shipments subject to import VAT and customs processing usually incur a processing/clearance fee. Typical fees range from about 300 to 600 NOK per shipment (approx. £20–£40). The delivery carrier typically collects these fees post-arrival.

Switzerland

If the total value of the shipment is CHF 150 or less (about £130), no import VAT is due.

If the shipment exceeds CHF 150, VAT is charged on the total + shipping, not just the value exceeding CHF 150, 8.1% VAT is charged on that entire sum with an additional customs clearance fee (e.g., CHF 16).

Please Note: The information here could be wrong or outdated. Please check a government source.

Ternerife

When we send your order from the UK to Tenerife you will be required to pay tax before receiving it.

IGIC (Canary Islands Sales Tax) applies:
Tenerife charges IGIC, usually at 7% for most goods.

IGIC calculation example:
Suppose the item is £40 (~45 EUR), and shipping is £10 (~11 EUR). The IGIC applies on total value + shipping, e.g., 51 EUR × 7% ≈ 3.57 EUR (about £3).

Customs declaration:
Since Tenerife is outside the EU VAT area, the shipment goes through customs clearance.

Customs and handling fees:
There may be a customs handling or clearance fee charged by the postal service or courier. This fee varies, often around €10–€20, but exact amounts depend on the carrier.

Important: The customer typically pays the IGIC and handling fee before delivery or on delivery.

North America

Canada

For Canada, it depends on your province. For prints, you should not have to pay any duty, however GST/HST can be 5-15%, depending on the province.

If we send a print to Ontario, for example, and Canada Post is delivering it, then you might be charged HST (13%) + CAD$9.95 handling fee which you will have to pay to Canada Post.

Canada

  • Import Duty: 0% (duty-free for HSCode 4911.91)
  • GST/HST: 5-15% depending on province (on £40 = £2-6)
  • De Minimis: CAD $20 (£40 exceeds this)
  • Customer Impact: Provincial taxes only
USA

As of August 29 2025, the USA has introduced new rules that mean EVERY PACKAGE you receive from abroad will likely attract duties.

We have written about it here..

Any art prints or canvas prints will NOT attract duties, because we are getting them made in the USA.

Mexico

If you order a print, with a value less than US$50, we will print it in the USA and you should receive it without taxes and fees due.

Any other orders will incur a 19% tax, and possibly a fee by the courier to collect it.

It will aid us if you could supply your RFC (tax ID) in the order notes section when you pay at checkout, otherwise we will contact you later to collect it, as it is required by the courier.
